New construction is exciting - but some builders hand over the keys and leave you with a blank slate. No landscaping. No walkways. Just dirt. That's exactly what this client was working with out here in Cedar. A beautiful new home, but nothing outside that made it feel finished or usable.
She had a clear vision. She wanted the yard to flow around the property, connect everything together, and give her a real outdoor space to enjoy - without tracking through the lawn to get anywhere. So that's where we started. A paver patio at the front entrance to greet people coming in. Practical and sharp-looking right from the curb.
From there, we laid out a curving paver-and-gravel walkway that wraps around the home and connects to a dedicated fire pit area. The curves were intentional - they follow the natural shape of the lot and keep things from feeling rigid or cookie-cutter. It all moves together in a way that feels like it belongs there, backed up against the tree line.
The fire pit pad is gravel-filled with edging all the way around, giving a clean, defined space to pull up chairs and actually use the yard. No muddy boots, no tripping through grass to get from the deck to the fire. Everything is connected. That was the whole goal - make the yard functional first, and let it look good doing it.
Out here in the Cedar area, a lot of new builds sit on wooded, open lots that need a plan before they need plants. Getting the hardscape right first - the patio, the walkways, the defined zones - is what makes everything else fall into place later. That's exactly the approach we took here.
