We built this paver patio and connecting walkway for the team at Comfort Keepers right here in Traverse City. The goal was simple - give their staff a dedicated outdoor space to step away from their desks, eat lunch, and actually decompress for a few minutes during the day. That kind of space matters more than people realize.
Here's what we were working with at the start. The area behind the building was flat, open ground with no hardscape whatsoever. We laid out the full layout using marking paint directly on the ground to map the curved walkway path and patio footprint before any equipment touched the soil. That planning step is where a lot of the quality gets built in before a single paver gets set.
From there, our crew brought in the skid steer, prepped the base, and started laying pavers piece by piece. The walkway runs in a smooth curve from the building out to the patio pad - nothing sharp or awkward about the transition. We used a darker border paver around the perimeter of both the path and the patio to give it a clean, finished edge that holds the whole design together.
What you end up with is a solid, low-maintenance surface that handles northern Michigan weather. It's a practical choice, not just a pretty one.
The Comfort Keepers team now has a real outdoor spot to use year after year. Surrounded by mature pines and away from the parking lot, it actually feels like a place to unwind - not just a patch of concrete tucked against a building. That's exactly what we were going for.
